To maintain status as a QCIT observer or trainer, those using QCIT are required to renew their certification annually by taking an online exam(s).
To maintain status as a QCIT observer or trainer, those using QCIT are required to renew their certification annually by taking an online video-based exam. Observers and trainers can prepare for recertification by reviewing their training materials (for example, re-coding videos and comparing against the gold standard scores) and by conducting QCIT observations (to deepen proficiency with the measure through practice).
Like the certification exam(s) at the conclusion of a QCIT observer certification training, observers and trainers taking a recertification exam will watch and code videos from two separate settings and submit their scores. The criteria to be fully certified on the QCIT are (1) achieve 80 percent or greater “within one-point” agreement with the gold standard scores across all items, and (2) achieve 75 percent or greater agreement in each of the four scales (Social Emotional, Cognitive, Language/Literacy, and Areas of Concern). Participants have up to three opportunities to take each annual recertification exam.
In addition, QCIT partner trainers need to complete a brief multiple-choice online exam. The partner trainer exam includes questions about the structure and goals of observer certification trainings and asks the trainer to respond to scenarios based on examples of trainee questions.
We require annual recertification to ensure that the QCIT instrument is used reliably. These exams are time sensitive, and status as an observer or trainer should not lapse. If certification is not renewed within the allotted time frame, a person will need to retake a training course to seek certification.
